In November this is the most listened song posted on social networks. Most of all in rainy days. We are talking about “November Rain”, of course, the 8:57 minutes length power ballad by Guns N’ Roses, the longest song in history that reached the number 3 of top ten on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.

1991: after many lineup changes, the band releases its third album, Use Your Illusion. The track number eight is “November Rain”, with its sweeping string arrangement, orchestrated by Axl himself. However, firstly it was performed by an orchestra, the same that played during the 1992 MTV Video Music Awards with Sir Elton John at the piano.

As Tracii Guns, former guitarist and founding member of Guns N’ Roses said in an interview, “Axl had been working on this song since at least 1983, when we was the L.A. Guns. Anytime we’d be at a hotel or anywhere, there’d be a piano; he’d just kinda play that music. And I’d go, “When are you gonna finish that already”, you know? And he’d go, “I don’t know what to do with it”.

A love story, with its problems and crisis moments:

When I look into your eyes/ I can see a love restrained/ But darlin’ when I hold you/ Don’t you know I feel the same

‘Cause nothin’ lasts forever/And we both know hearts can change/ And it’s hard to hold a candle/ In the cold November rain

A lyric about love and suffering, the end of this relationship, a very famous video, among the most requested by MTV and awarded at the MTV Video Music Awards for the Best Cinematography, shows Axl marrying his then-girlfriend Stephanie Seymour, a love story that ends tragically. The music video cost $ 1.5 million: it is currently the 9th most expensive music video ever in music’s history. For sure it is one of the most remembered among music lovers.

Do you need some time… on your own/ Do you need some time… all alone/ Everybody needs some time… on their own/ Don’t you know you need some time… all alone

I know it’s hard to keep an open heart/ When even friends seem out to harm you/ But if you could heal a broken heart/ Wouldn’t time be out to charm you
