Mido 4 Men: Men’s Eyewear of the Future

Eyewear enthusiasts know this: you need to fall in love with a pair of sunglasses because – especially for prescription lenses – you’ll be wearing them for a long time and you’ll become inseparable.

The new models on display at the latest edition of Mido (28 February-2 March) promise to captivate at first glance.
The 45th International Optics, Optometry and Ophthalmology Exhibition, with more than 1000 exhibitors including big names, up-and-coming designers and niche manufacturers, has set to amaze visitors more than ever this year with big news particularly when it comes to the offer for men, who are usually more reluctant to embrace new trends.

With experimental designs, flashbacks to the past and glimpses of the future, men’s eyewear will be focusing on new, eco-friendly and futuristic materials with a high degree of technology. The best of them have sartorial detailing as if they had come from a tailor’s workshop and they can be customised to meet the tastes, requirements and even the whims of the wearer.

The aviator shape is still out in front, but with a revamped, more modern feel. This trend has influenced all the more unusual models: bold shapes and high-tech materials blend with retro inspirations from the 50s and 70s. The Mount Olympus of colours features blues and greys, found not only on the front pieces and stems, but also the lenses. Tortoiseshell is always a must-have classic, while vibrant, shocking colours are making headway and becoming increasingly popular.

Black dominates the scene, it suits everyone and people never get tired of its rugged sophistication – but there’s black and there’s black … If you want one of the most sophisticated, on-trend frames of the season, be sure to choose opaque!
