October 26th, 2014

The Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid shows a retrospective about the great couturier Hubert de Givenchy, created and curated by the designer herself. The exhibition retraces the history of the French Maison since its foundation in 1952 till the farewell to catwalks by Monsieur Givenchy in 1996. From October 22th 2014 to January 18th 2015, “Hubert de Givenchy” shows a hundred of dresses from private collections and museums, unusual clothes and artistic connections that explain the creative process of a true legend of Haute Couture.

Dresses and paintings which influenced the designer artistically tell a story of elegance that goes beyond trends. Different periods and styles (from Rothjo to Miró and Zurbarán) are all linked thanks to Givenchy’s creations here displayed. Historic and iconic pieces, like the dress worn by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s (she was friend and muse of Monsieur Givenchy) and references to the most famous admirers of the brand, like Jacqueline Kennedy and Wallis Simpson. An iconographic retrospective, a true story of style.
