Colette’s spirit cannot be described in words, but it is perceived, like a fragrance, in her important literary output – scandalous for its age – in her fascinating life and in the cultural atmosphere of the Parisian Belle Époque, of which she was one of the undisputed leading figure.

Her life was filled with multiple careers: writer, music-hall actress, author, literary critic and important journalist for the most famous French newspapers and even beautician and perfume seller. Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette was the first French woman to have a state funeral and as a High Official of the Legion d’Onore, was awarded one of the greatest academic honours.

She married three times and challenged the moral conventions of the age, with her notorious romances with both sexes. She cared nothing for scandals and was proud and confident in her beliefs, which is the reason why she is unique and inimitable.
