Art Basel 2015

“Synchronicity”, the majestic installation by Robin Meier beats time

June 22nd, 2015

The 46th edition of Art Basel, an important modern and contemporary art fair, which enlivened Basel from 18th to 21st June, saw the debut of “Synchronicity”.

The imposing sound installation by Swiss artist Robin Meier inaugurated the launch of the first Audemars Piguet Art Commission, created to support chosen artists in producing exceptional works every year. The oldest family-run watchmakers, founded in 1875, provided Meier with every resource, access to artisan know-how and sophisticated technology.

This resulted in Synchronicity: centred on synchronicity and the patterns that emerge spontaneously in nature, exploring mathematical rules behind the self-organisation of fireflies (who flash in synchronicity), of crickets, of noises, computers and electromagnetic pendulums… temporal patterns and structures that evoke the harmonious uniformity of the complex mechanics in Audemars Piguet timepieces.
