The pearl of the Caribbean. From late 19th century on, Havana was a Mecca for intellectuals, business people and socialites as well as adventurers and sailors. Cuba, an island where the air of time has another scent: a fragrance in which knowledge and joie de vivre go hand in hand, creating the freedom to be. But Havana was also synonymous with elegance, class, glamour, luxury and a unique and inimitable lifestyle. And it was in this spirit and to honor these values that Armando Rio y Cuervo and his brother skillfully and devotedly ran the jewelry shop and watch-making atelier of their uncle Ramòn, whence the name Cuervo y Sobrinos (Cuervo and nephews, “sobrinos” in Spanish).

In the spring of 1882 the family inaugurated their boutique, “La Casa” on Havana’s fashionable Avenida Quinta.

A luxury brand of international repute, Cuervo y Sobrinos has been producing its own watch collection in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland since 1882. The tradition continues in the Lugano area with its contemporary timepieces which remain true to the “vintage” aesthetic movements of the original collections and designs created in the past. It associates simplicity, avant-gardism and art deco with an innovative spirit, expertise and modern Swiss watchmaking.

Today Cuervo y Sobrinos is fully part of the Swiss fine watch business. A niche brand, certainly, but able to gain renown thanks to unique positioning, offering a product with “Latin flavor” unequaled on the market. Since the international re-launch in 2003, Cuervo y Sobrinos’ success is growing Worldwide; in 2009 the opening of the boutique-museum in the heart of old Havana and beside our key markets USA, Japan, China and Spain, we are in more than 25 other countries through more than 225 qualified retailers worldwide. Cuervo y Sobrinos headquarters, including production and assembly, are based in Capolago, on the river of Lake of Lugano.
