Let’s start the first part of this small guidebook divided in three episodes about the many new items launched during the last edition of Baselworld, the most important watch and jewellery trade show.

We divide the models of our selection, necessarily lacking (in fact the exhibitors of this edition 2014 were almost 1,500…) into nine different sections, depending on their features.

COUNTING THE EFFECTS OF GRAVITY

Created at the end of XVIII century by A. -L. Breguet, tourbillon aims to counter the effects of gravity by mounting the escapement and balance wheel in a rotating cage. This complication is still one of the most difficult challenges for horlogerie houses. We recommend TAG Heuer (www.tagheuer.com) Monaco V4 Tourbillon, shock-resistant thanks to its patented belt technology, and Chopard (www.chopard.com) L.U.C Tourbillon QF Fairmined, the first watch in the world which comes with a certification of responsible gold-mining in the Nariño region of Colombia.

HURRAH FOR VINTAGE!

Even if their look have an old charm, we must not be betrayed by appearance! These watches hide innovative technologies, such as Grand Seiko (www.seikowatches.com) SBGA107 with Spring Drive movement, where the traditional mechanisms meet the most avant-garde electronics, or Omega (www.omegawatches.com) De Ville Trésor, whereof new caliber Master Co-Axial 8511 contrasts the effect of magnetism on the precision of the watch. New is also the movement of Glashütte Original (www.glashuette-original.com) Seventies Chronograph Panoramadatum.

FOR THOSE WHO LOVE PAUSES

Among the chronographs with a sporty soul we recommend the new – and very thin – movement Calibre CH 80 Chronograph that increases the well-known TAG Heuer Carrera collection (www.tagheuer.com).

A racing inspiration for Chopard (www.chopard.com) Grand Prix de Monaco Historique Chrono, featuring an automatic movement with COSC certification. The unique bi-retrograde movement of Hublot (www.hublot.com) Big Bang Official Watch for 2014 FIFA World Cup that will take place in Brazil is perfect for those who want to clock a football match… including extra times!
