It’s raining in Venice, but the air is full of dreams.

On Carnival night and on the buildings that overlook the Grand Canal this is “the” celebration of the year in which people enter dressed up only.

For many girls Il Ballo del Doge, also known as The Doge’s Ball, is a dream, just like for Antonia Suatter, elegant lady of the house that began organising this event 21 years ago to celebrate her mother, died when Antonia was 18, seamstress as Antonia herself and source of inspiration for her creative story and atelier in Piazza San Marco.
The air is lively also for taxi drivers that guide the guests, more than 400 are awaited at Palazzo Pisani Moretta.

In the motorboat the adrenalin rises like the tide (the high water is expected for 11.30 pm). When we go out, we pay attention the dress don’t get wet, that dress chosen in the tailor’s shop as if it were our wedding dress (there are more than 1200 models to choose among laces, crochets, dame dress, Sixteenth century costumes, libertine ones from the ’700, Nordic queens, Scarlett O’Hara, bishops and pashas).
When we arrive, two Punchinellos welcome us while another one comes with us on the gangway, says something in Venetian and… bum! [...]
