beHouse 2015: Cantine Marchesi Mazzei

Great Tuscans: The Marchesi Mazzei Wineries

by Redazione
May 20th, 2015

A family whose history is rooted in that of the Italian communes (early 11th century). It is the history of the Mazzei family, owners of the Fonterutoli winery, from the wedding of the granddaughter of Ser Lapo and Piero di Agnolo of Fonterutoli (1435) and of three important wineries: Castello di Fonterutoli in the Chianti Classico area (producing almost 800,000 bottles per year and offering the opportunity to stay within its ancient walls at its B&B and to enjoy traditional Tuscan dishes at the Osteria di Fonterutoli), Tenuta Belguardo, in Tuscany’s Maremma (not only producing red wine but also a rosé and a Vermentino) and Zisola, in the South-East of Sicily.
Twenty-four generations have followed. The current owners, Lapo, and his sons Filippo and Francesco keep the values of tradition alive, adapting them to the opportunities offered by the market, technology and environmental protection: great values like the great red wines in their new generation cellar (2006) and that guests of beHouse can discover over 3 days of tastings of Fonterutoli 2013 Chianti Classico and Belguardo Vermentino 2014.
Diners at the Don Lisander restaurant in Milan will also be offered an exciting experience based around Castello Fonterutoli 2011 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione.
